Apple adds new emoji, camera settings in iOS 10.2 developer beta

iOS 10 hidden features

Just hours after releasing iOS 10.1.1, Apple has published the first beta of iOS 10.2 to its developer portal.

Developers are often provided with an early preview of an upcoming software update in order to ensure compatibility between apps and any changes Apple has made.

According to Apple news site 9to5Mac, the first developer beta of 10.2 includes the following changes:

  • Three new wallpapers
  • A new widget for the Video app
  • A “Preserve Camera” setting
  • New emoji
  • A Celebration screen effect in Messages
  • “Press and hold to speak” accessibility feature for the home button

Monday’s release also comes a few days after Apple revealed a new app for Apple TV, iPhone, and iPad. The “TV” app replaces the Video app on iOS devices, adding suggestions of what users should watch on the Apple TV or while on the go on an iOS device.

Yes, Apple TV will be a HomeKit hub

It’s official: the Apple TV can be the bridge to your connected home for remote access and information. Best of all, you won’t need to buy new hardware.

The TV doesn’t appear to be included in the first developer preview, and it isn’t expected to be available to the public until December. Although, there are hints of the forthcoming feature found within the source code of iOS 10.2.

Perhaps more exciting is the fact Apple is adding to the long list of emoji currently available across its devices. And for the first time, there will be a bacon emoji, according to a developer who posted a screenshot of the new emoji on Twitter.

Apple also released preview builds of macOS 10.12.2, watchOS 3.1.1, and tvOS 10.1 to developers.

Developers with a paid account can visit Apple’s developer portal to download the latest beta.
